#PRISONS AMBASSADOR EXTRAORDINAIRE TO LAUNCH CAMPAIGN

Accra, Aug 4, GNA – Mr Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, Ghana Prisons Service "Ambassador Extraordinaire" is to launch the “Stop Crime Campaign”.
The campaign is to educate the youth about the deplorable prison conditions to deter them from engaging in crime.

The Ghana Prisons Service Council conferred on Mr Kwarteng, Ambassador Extraordinaire for his dedication in projecting the welfare of prisoners and the deplorable prison conditions across the country.

Mr Kwarteng made this known when; he paid a courtesy call on Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater-Accra Regional Minister at his office on Tuesday.
The visit was to seek audience with the Minister and present the award to him and also obtain support for his campaign.

He said, he would take the campaign to churches, schools and mosques to share experience with the public about the living conditions of prisoners.
Mr Kwarteng, who is also a Broadcast Journalist with GBC, said his commitment to give voice to the voiceless prisoners has made many now aware of the challenges facing the Prison Service.
“Majority of the youth do not have any idea about prison living conditions,” he added.

He said over the years much has not been done to project the plight of the service and its terrible nature, hence his interest to focus on the prisons.
Mr Kwarteng's latest documentary on prison conditions' title “A Neglected Potential ” moved the President, John Dramani Mahama to the Nsawam prisons to see firsthand, the deplorable living conditions to enable him push for a higher budgetary allocation for the Prisons Service.
Nii Agbo commended Mr Kwarteng for his commitment to champion the issues regarding the prison service.

He pledged to support the campaign and said he would give directive to all metropolitan, municipal, district chief executives in the region to support the campaign, when it gets to their area.
The Ghana Prisons Council has launched the Project 'Efiase' aimed at creating awareness of the deplorable prison conditions as well as the many challenges facing the service.
The initiative is also to raise funds and other resources from institutions and individuals to improve on the conditions of prisons and transform them into practicable rehabilitation and reformation centres.
